The main language spoken in the area is the Khasi Language. In the border villages there is a mixture of Khasi and Garo language because there are Garos also who live in the Border villages of the Block bordering Bangladesh. As there is a mixture of Khasis and Garos tribes who live in the Block the main religion is Christianity, there is also Niam Khasi and Songsarek religion. Fair, Festivals dresses and ornaments, food, music, dance art form, folklore, folk tales, games/sport etc are the same like any other Khasis and Garos in the state with their only different local festivals of the the Khasi religion resembles to Shad Sukmynsiem but with a different title given after the different name of their villages, e.g., Shad Sengkhasi Mawsynram, Shad Seng Khasi Tyrsad etc. Sometime these local religious festivals are given with a local nickname "Shad Lat".
